Meals on Wheels accepting new participants
December 16, 2010 · Updated 11:07 AM
Vashon’s Meals on Wheels program, which delivers meals to seniors, has a new menu this fall and welcomes new participants.
The service is available to seniors 60 and older with disabilities that keep them from shopping and preparing meals, as well as homebound people younger than 60. Volunteers deliver the frozen meals once a week for people to then heat in ovens or microwaves.
Entrees include roast turkey, chicken enchiladas and vegetarian lasagna. All items are marked for their fat and sodium content as well as which selections are appropriate for people with kidney disease. The program also delivers nutritional supplements such as Ensure.
The cost to seniors is $3 per meal and $4.50 per meal for those younger than 60. For more information, contact the Vashon Senior Center at 463-5173.
