Last winter, Anneke Steneker, 13, was saddened to see homeless men sleeping in the streets of Seattle. Motivated by a desire to do something for them, she collected over six garbage bags full of coats, gloves, scarves and hats, which she then donated to a shelter in Seattle that distributed them to the homeless.

This year, Anneke is continuing her efforts and has placed collection bins for coats and winter items at the Vashon Bookshop, Minglement, Café Luna and Vashon Family Practice. She will collect items through mid-January.
