McDermott, Toledo advance to November’s general election
August 23, 2011 · 1:21 PM
Joe McDermott, the incumbent, and Diana Toledo, a challenger, will face off in the November election in a race for the 8th District seat on the Metropolitan King County Council.
Three people were running for the post — the third being perennial candidate Goodspaceguy — triggering a primary contest.
McDermott was the top vote-getter in the Aug. 16 primary, with nearly 24,000 votes, or 68 percent of the ballots cast. Toledo, a laid-off county employee, garnered 9,302 votes, or 27 percent of the ballots cast.
The two will now face each other in the Nov. 8 general election for the four-year term. McDermott and Toledo vied for the seat last year, when it was a contest to fill Dow Constantine’s unexpired term.
District 8 includes Vash-on, West Seattle and Burien. The position pays $131,578 annually.
