Legislators to speak at community council meeting
April 13, 2012 · 10:27 AM
All three of Vashon's state legislators will visit the Vashon-Maury Island Community Council's general meeting on Monday to brief Islanders on the recent legislative session.
Sen. Sharon Nelson, Rep. Joe Fitzgibbon and Rep. Eileen Cody will present their legislative wrap-up, offering insights into how decisions made during the recent session may affect Islanders and the region. Topics may include budget impacts, transportation, ferries, social services, healthcare and the environment.
Tim Johnson, who heads the community council board, said that it's rare to get all three lawmakers together on Vashon and he imagined the meeting would be similar to a town hall.
“We're really pleased that they were able to coordinate and all come out together, rather than at different times,” he said.
Capt. Patrick Butschli of the King County Sheriff's Office will also be on hand at the meeting to discuss progress in negotiations regarding Vashon's deputy staffing levels.
