Small plane crashes near airport
August 28, 2012 · 10:58 AM
A Vashon resident was transported to Harborview Medical Center after crashing his small, ultralight airplane in a field near the Vashon Municipal Airport Friday evening.
The pilot of the small aircraft was alert and conscious when Vashon Island Fire & Rescue responders arrived at around 8 p.m., said Sgt. Cindi West, a spokeswoman for the King County Sheriff’s Department. West said the pilot told responders his plane had an engine failure and he was attempting to make an emergency landing in the field when he crashed. He suffered possible back injuries.
The plane accident marks the second one this year on Vashon. A plane flipped after an aborted take-off in May.
