Sunset Magazine highlights Vashon's 'sleepy pleasures'
August 30, 2012 · Updated 6:51 PM
Just months after naming Vashon one of the West's 20 “ultimate fantasy towns” to live in, Sunset Magazine has spotlighted the Island once again.
In its September issue, Sunset dedicates a two-page spread to Vashon, recommending its readers to hop on the ferry and give in to the Island's “sleepy pleasures” on a weekend day trip.
Set off by a large photo of local farmer Jasper Forrester grinning and holding a bunch of radishes at the Farmers Market, the piece praises the lively market, then recommends visitors explore the Island more fully.
Take a “lazy hike” at secluded Fern Cove, the author writes, or spot eagles at the driftwood-studded Point Robinson Park. Get a hand-pulled espresso at the Vashon Island Coffee Roasterie, the author goes on to say, and check out quirky-cool gifts at Kronos or stylish fair-trade wares at Giraffe.
The article also features Vashon's farm-to-table La Boucherie restaurant, which it says “goes toe-to-toe with Seattle's locavore best.”
