Some said Vashon’s 10th annual Oscar gala Feb. 24 at the Vashon Theatre was the most glamorous to date, and the blowout event grossed $2,350 for Vashon Film Society to spend on scholarships.

Lucy Rogers, only 4, was dressed to the nines in purple and feathers and landed a coveted “best dressed” award, as did Quinn Birgin, 11.

Sarah Zimmerman, 10, popped on some pajamas to view the Academy Awards and took home an award of her own — “best PJs.”

Jenn Oss was deemed the best “celebrity look-alike” — she was channeling a character in Hairspray.

And when, shockingly, no adult male wanted to compete for “best dressed,” costume contest judge Larry Flynn, whom many would have deemed dapper, jumped up on stage and snatched the award for himself.

Blonde and svelte Molly Lott beat off the over-18 female set to take home a “best-dressed” award.

And newcomer Stephanie Reasor raised the bar with her fashion masterpiece, snagging the coveted “Cher award” in the process.

Lucien Brilliant, 12, was dubbed best-dressed teen male; Athene Souliotes was given the title of best-dressed teen female.

Best-dressed couple? Greg and Margaret Wessel. Greg’s jacket, complete with tails, glittered with ruby sequins; Margaret’s cream silk gown complemented her feather boa perfectly.

There was a three-way tie for those with the best ballot, between Marita Ericksen, Suzanne Mager and Tom Quackenbush.

Ruthann Howell won the Oscar Trivia Quiz.

Although attendance at the event was slightly lower than last year (organizers attributed this to less aggressive advertising), those who attended happily purchased dinner catered by Mardi Ljubich’s SheFidgets Catering, bringing in more money for Vashon Film Society (VFS) scholarships.

Last year’s recipients of VFS scholarships given through the Vashon Community Scholarship Fund were Leslie Reynolds, Taylor Butz and Jay Parker.

Event organizer Karen du Four des Champs reported that Ljubich had such a good time at the event that she has already committed to the 2009 Oscars.
