U.S. Rep. Jim McDermott (D-Seattle) will visit Vashon Sunday for a low-dollar fundraiser where he will also take questions from the community.

McDermott is running for reelection in the 7th Congressional District, where he has held office since 1989 and been reelected 11 times. The district, known as one of the most Democratic in the country, was redrawn in January, but Vashon's boundaries were not affected.

McDermott is challenged by Republican Ron Bemis, a Seattle attorney who is basing his campaign on the need to control the national debt.

The Vashon fundraiser, scheduled for 4 p.m. Sunday at the north-end grange, has a suggested donation of $25.
