Vashon recycling center to begin taking scrap metal

October 17, 2012 · Updated 2:43 PM

Islanders will soon be able to recycle scrap metal on Vashon.

Beginning Nov. 1, the county-run recycling center on Westside Highway will add scrap metal to its list of items that can be recycled for free.

The center will accept items that are at least 70 percent metal, as well as metal siding, barbecue grills, metal fencing, wheel rims and widow frames.

Adding scrap metal recycling at the center comes as part of the county's effort to encourage recycling over disposal, said Doug Williams, a spokesman for the county, in a press release.

The recycling center and transfer station is open from 9 a.m. to 5 a.m. Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

For more information on materials accepted at the center, see http://your.kingcounty.gov/solidwaste/facilities/vashon-transfer.asp?ID=344.
