Polar bear swim draws dozens to KVI Beach | Slideshow

January 2, 2013 · Updated 2:30 PM

Dozens of islanders welcomed the new year on Tuesday by participating in a polar bear swim at KVI Beach. Several held hands as they dived into the chilly waters — according to weather reports, Puget Sound was around 49 degrees. Dogs took to the waters, too.

Most participants got out quickly, but a few swam for a few moments and others headed back for a second or even third plunge.

Enjoy this slideshow, and see if you can spot your neighbors and friends charging towards the water.
