Construction at Vashon north-end ferry means schedule changes and delays in November
October 23, 2009 · Updated 2:12 PM
Due to construction at Vashon's north-end ferry terminal, ferry schedules will be altered during the first two weeks of November on the Vashon-Fauntleroy-Southworth route. Delays are also expected.
Crews will be building and repairing "dolphins," the off-shore structures that help guide ferries to dock, between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. Nov. 2 to 15. The construction work will force the closure of one of Vashon's ferry slips.
Weekday schedules will be only slightly impacted, but during the weekends of Nov. 7 and 8 and Nov. 14 and 15, the schedule will be significantly altered. Temporary schedules are available on the ferries and on WSF's Web site. Select a trip date between Nov. 2 and 15 to see the impacted schedule.
Washington State Ferries recommends that drivers leaving Vashon arrive at the ferry terminal at least 20 minutes before their scheduled vessel departure.
The $2.1 million construction project is necessary to enhance terminal safety, preserve structures adjacent to the dolphins and minimize the risk of future service disruptions, according to Washington State Ferries.
