The King County Library System (KCLS) board signed a lease last month that will allow the Vashon Library to be expanded at Ober Park.

The five-member library board agreed to the terms of a lease that had been examined by the Vashon Park District board and lawyers for both the park district and the library system, minutes from a KCLS board meeting show. The park board had agreed to the lease earlier.

Next, the library system is expected to begin the design process for the expansion, which will take the first six months of 2010, said Vashon Park District board chair Mike Collins. The project is expected to break ground in spring 2011.

KCLS executive director Bill Ptacek could not be reached for comment.
