Island organizations and citizen activists concerned about the safety net on Vashon plan to hold a public forum to discuss homelessness, affordable housing and other housing issues.

The forum will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 6, at Vashon Community Care (VCC). Among those in attendance will be representatives from Vashon HouseHold, Vashon Youth & Family Services, the Island’s food bank, the Interfaith Council on Homelessness, the Vashon Senior Center and VCC.

The Island’s legislative delegation is also expected to attend.

The effort is a follow-up to a forum held last year on a range of social issues and is open to the public. Chris Szala, who heads Vashon HouseHold, said the Island’s social service agencies have been meeting regularly since last year’s forum.

Over the course of their meetings, he added, “We’ve identified some housing gaps that we see in our community.”
