Care center officials continue talks as they seek new management partner

On Monday, one week before Vashon Community Care’s management contract with Providence Health &Services was slated to expire, care center officials said they were still in talks about a potential new affiliation and exploring all their options, but provided little information beyond that.

Last month, the care center board approved pursuing an affiliation with Bellevue-based Transforming Age.

“We are in the midst of transition, and there are no details that we can offer up yet,” said Verna Everitt, the executive director of the Vashon Community Care Foundation and the new spokesperson for the transition effort.

Everitt added that meetings are occurring daily, and she would have more information soon.

“It takes a lot of time, and there are a lot of details before anything is written in stone,” she added.

Likewise, Providence’s Charlene Boyd, the current managing administrator of Vashon Community Care, said she could provide no updates either.

The management contract between Providence and Vashon Community Care is set to expire on Aug. 27. In June, Boyd stated that the current operating arrangement will remain in place beyond that date if need be.

On Monday, Everitt noted that care for residents was continuing as usual and that day-to-day operations had not changed.

When a new a new affiliation has been finalized, however, she said there will likely be some administrative changes in store.

“The goal is to become financially sustainable. We will have to change some things,” she added.

As others involved have said previously, Everitt stressed that all parties are focused on the continued care of the residents.
