Chamber to host annual Home Fair Sunday

More than 25 local businesses including designers, architects and contractors will attend the event.

The Vashon Chamber of Commerce will host the sixth community Home Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at Vashon Center for the Arts.

More than 25 local businesses — consisting of designers, real estate agents, architects, engineers, organizers, cleaners and contractors — will attend the fair. According to Executive Director Jim Marsh, the chamber intends for the fair to connect islanders with businesses on Vashon — and for those businesses to connect with each other.

“It’s created a chance for similar types of businesses to network and get to know each other, and then they become referral sources for each other,” said Marsh. “Every business on the island wants to keep business on the island, whether it’s them or someone else.”

Marsh said that knowledgeable experts will be on-hand to help demystify the costs of making home improvements, as well as offer tips on how to get the most out of home equity and how to protect investments. Organizers hope those attending will notice a change of pace compared to previous years — the event has been annually held on a Saturday, which Marsh said can often be too frenetic for people to feel like they have time to stay and talk. Patrons will also have chances to win door prizes and sample food.

Marsh added that the chamber’s mission is to help grow the island economy — he said the Home Fair has helped accomplish that goal, as businesses have reported to the chamber that they have taken new clients due to the event.

“That speaks to a lot of our efforts to highlight all businesses on the island to help people be able to make a living here.”
