Harbor School’s 17th annual Voyager’s Auction raises more than $120,000

Vashon’s only private school held its 17th annual auction at the Open Space for Arts & Community Saturday night and raised more than $120,000.

The Harbor School’s Allison Reid said Monday the event — themed “In our own Backyard” — represented “the first time in a long time there were no hiccups the night of.”

“It was all just so smooth,” she said.

Saturday’s festivities included an auction hosted by islander Kevin Joyce, dessert dash, paddle raise and raffle.

Around 200 people attended with many alumni casting absentee bids in the auction and paddle raise for scholarships.

“Our appeal paddle raise just for financial aid was close to $40,000,” Reid said.

Among the items auctioned off were a stand-up paddleboard, an insect collection kit and lawn canopy.

In the raffle, attendees could win a trampoline, coveted Indigo Girls tickets and a summer membership to the Vashon Golf & Swim Club.

Picnic-themed food was provided by The Hardware Store Restaurant, and islanders baked a variety of cakes and pies for the dessert dash portion of the evening in which tables compete — via bids — to get first choice of desserts.

The amount raised is on par with last year’s event in which more than $125,000 was raised. Reid said totals were still being calculated as of Monday afternoon.

“We make sure that all the sponsors help us fund the actual event so that, on night of, all of the money raised just goes straight into the school,” Reid said.
