Lucy’s Table will be closed during transition

The restaurant at the Burton Inn, Lucy’s Table, will close for “a winter break” and transition to new management, with an aim to re-open in late March or early April.

As previously reported, Burton Inn owner Deborah Kohler is selling the property due to health issues and plans to move to Oregon to be close to family. The fate of the restaurant, Lucy’s Table, however, seemed a little clearer as Kohler noted the possibility of an arrangement with the eatery’s current chef, Dominic Reeves — an arrangement that has, in fact, come to pass, according to Reeves.

“Since she hired me, Deborah has coached and supported my efforts as head chef to prepare me to take the restaurant on my own. This is a transition we are on track to complete by late March, early April,” he said.

With Kohler’s health taking a recent turn for the worse and winter patronage slow, it was decided that closing for a break while the financing and licensing for Reeves was still in process would be the best course.

“There is much to do behind the scenes to solidify this transition,” Reeves explained.

Reeves, who has been on Vashon with his family for four years, is looking forward to creating a relaxing eatery for his current and future customers.

“I enjoy what I do and have found great fulfillment sharing my talents and passion with the island,” he said. “As the head chef at Lucy’s Table, I have been working diligently to provide something that is both unique and representative of my 25 years of experience working in kitchens across the country and in the South Pacific. It has been an honor to create nourishing and interesting dishes for people to enjoy.”

Reeves is planning to re-brand the restaurant, and to thank loyal patrons, the restaurant will be open for a special prix fixe dinner on Valentine’s Day. For reservations, call 206-408-7060.
