New trolley service begins in Tacoma

There is a new way to get from the Point Defiance ferry to downtown Tacoma and Point Ruston — by trolley.

Pierce County Transit’s Defiance to Downtown trolley will run from 10:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and the third Thursday of the month now through Sept. 3.

The trolley service is a pilot project to determine the need for transit along this route in future years. It connects to local bus services and Light Rail, which then connects to Sounder Commuter Rail, Sound Transit’s Regional Express Bus services and Amtrak.

Trolley fares are $1 for adults and youth and 50 cents for seniors or disabled riders with a Regional Reduced Fare Permit. Adult all-day passes that can be used throughout the Pierce County Transit system are $5 and $2.50 for children, seniors and disabled riders.
