Roadwork begins on Vashon’s west side, Tacoma’s Point Defiance

Work will include repairing the adjacent slope and improving drainage.

Beginning at 9 a.m. Monday, July 29, repair work will begin on a storm-damaged section of the Westside Highway, from McIntyre Road to Cove Road.

The work will include repairing the adjacent slope and improving drainage. It requires a full closure of this section of roadway. The road is expected to reopen at 5 p.m. Monday, Sept. 9.

A detour route will be posted on-site along with signage to guide traffic around the construction area.

In Tacoma, contractor crews will repave a section of North Pearl Street/State Route 163 near Point Defiance Landing starting as early as Monday, July 29.

This work will repair the roadway surface between North 54th Street and the ferry terminal, expand the ferry holding lanes from two lanes to four, and install upgrades to the tolling communication system for Washington State Ferries.

Flaggers will direct traffic and give priority to off-loading vehicles. No effects on ferry sailings are expected. The work is expected to be completed in the fall.
