Vashon History: A look back at the Jesus Barn

The Jesus Barn was built by the Sherman family in Paradise Valley. The word “Jesus” was painted on it in the early 1970s by counter culture residents of the house. The Jesus Barn collapsed during a storm in 1983, but it still sometimes referred to as an island landmark by longtime residents.

Vashon has a rich history. Those who are interested in learning more about it may wish to stop by the Heritage Museum on Bank Road. The museum is open from 1 to 4 p.m. Sundays through Wednesdays. Learn more online at vashonheritagemuseum.org.
