The young woman who died in a single-car accident on Vashon last December was intoxicated at the time of the crash, according to a report recently released by the King County Sheriff’s Office.

Sierra Marie Pedrin-Linden, 22, died on Dec. 17 in an accident on Vashon Highway near the north end. She was driving southbound on the highway in her SUV at about 11:30 p.m. when she apparently lost control of the vehicle, swerving off the road and over-correcting twice before going into a ditch and hitting a tree near SW 140th Street. The vehicle had no passengers, but a dog in the car also died at the scene.

A toxicology report showed that Linden had a blood alcohol level of between 0.23 and 0.27, about three times the legal limit.

The report by the sheriff’s office’s Major Accident Response and Reconstruction unit, which investigated the accident, also noted that it had been rainy around the time and the streets were wet. An islander interviewed by police said she believed Linden had been at Sporty’s that evening and had just picked up her dog.

Sporty’s was apparently not investigated by police, and the report gives no other information about where Linden may have  obtained alcohol that evening. Jason Stanley, a spokesman for the King County Sheriff’s Office, said local police agencies do not, except in extreme cases, have the power to sanction bars for over-service.

Linden was a 2011 graduate of Vashon High School. She was the caregiver for an autistic young man on Vashon and also worked at Vashon Pizza.
