Richard Shride

Richard ‘Dick’ Eugene Shride passed away on April 17th, 2017, in Puyallup, Washington, at age 95, with his daughters by his side. Dick was born on August 29th, 1921, in Emden, Missouri, but in 1935 found his home in Vashon Island, Washington, where he remained.

Dick served in the US Marine Corps (1942-1946), was a long-time employee of Beall’s Greenhouse and the Vashon Island Hardware Store. Dick volunteered for Granny’s Attic and was often seen driving the ‘senior bus’ around Vashon Island.

Dick was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie (McCormick),

his son Phil, and his siblings: Blanche, Margaret, Don, and Darryl.

Dick is survived by his daughters Colleen McClure (Charles), Joanne Wind (Bruce), grandchildren Sheridan McClure, Heather Dioguardi, Chelese Bergstrom, Jennifer Roppo, Holly Lancaster, Megan McClure, and fifteen great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Frank Shride and sisters Nellie Belle, Hazel Leaf, Donna Gimblet, and Darlene Reimer.

The family recommends donations in Dick’s name to Vashon Island Heritage Museum, 10105 SW Bank Road, Vashon, WA 98070.

A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, June 18, 2017, at 1pm at Island Funeral Service, Reception to follow.
