LETTER: Bolting into traffic is dangerous

In response to the pedestrian editorial three weeks ago (“Busy intersections, dark nights call for caution,” Jan. 11), and the letter last week (“Cars should yield to pedestrians, period,” Feb. 1), although I understand and agree that a pedestrian in a crosswalk does have right-of-way, the problem I experience is described fully in Washington law as “bolting into traffic.” According to the law, “no pedestrian or bicycle shall suddenly leave a curb and move into traffic so that the driver can not stop” (RCW 46.61.235).

It is this jumping into oncoming traffic that occurs uptown, which I find both frustrating and dangerous.
