LETTER: Current proposal reflects community input

We support the Vashon school board’s decision to present the scaled-back bond issue for the April 25 election.

Over the last 50 years, a few bond issues failed on the first attempt. The first McMurray Intermediate School bond failed in 1967. But similar to the current bond, the board sought community advice and reduced the bond. It was approved in 1968.

The current scaled-back bond issue attests to the board’s commitment and obligation to provide safe and well-maintained facilities for our students, staff and community. Previous boards and the island community have been at this juncture in the past 77 years when the island consolidated into one district. Let’s continue the support that our parents and grandparents provided for our island’s educational and athletic facilities on April 25.
