LETTER: No more refugees should come to Vashon

The Vashon Resettlement Committee has successfully brought three Syrian families to Vashon. They said before they want to bring as many as they can, as fast as they can.

The Syrian families were already here in the U.S. Why bring them to Vashon? We’re a high-rent neighborhood. We already have people struggling to pay rent and property tax.

The Resettlement Committee has raised thousands of dollars to help a few families they deem special to locate here. So far, it appears they’ve enrolled six children in our expensive super schools. Have they raised enough money to cover the schooling cost?

I’ve said before I’m not anti-immigration; however, I do want to see strict limits on the numbers. If the committee doesn’t bring anymore Syrian families, the few they have brought won’t be a threat. Most liberals can’t connect human population growth and destruction of our environment: especially our own human habitat.

Where will this end? Will the committee continue to bring any type of migrant to Vashon? I’ve heard some liberals say we need to diversify Vashon. Such notions are appalling: It only leads to over-population and foments hate. If it isn’t broke, don’t fix it.

For the last few decades, population growth has been expensive trouble. We’re stifling ourselves.
