Vashon friends and family come together for Seattle Marathon and Half Marathon

Dozens of runners and walkers from Vashon took part in the 40th annual Seattle Marathon and Half Marathon on Nov. 28, with some notable performances and personal bests.

Race day weather broung perfect running conditions: cool with no wind or rain.

Stacey Whitney led three Islanders in the marathon with a time of 4:24:40, while Kevin Ross led 29 Islanders in the half marathon, completing it in 1:27:26.

A number of friends and families participated together, including the father-son duos of Bruce and Aidan Cyra finishing the half marathon in 1:33:55, and David and Samuel Levant, who finished the half marathon in 2:06:45. The Cyras were joined by family members Lisa and Keller Cyra, while David and Samuel were joined by Cynthia Pollock.

Other Island families who participated included Eric, Robert and Rita Cannell; Peter and Lea Heffernan; and Doug and Janice Campbell.

The youngest Islander to complete the race was Graham Peet, 13, who ran with his friend Samuel Levant, 14.
