Islanders compete in triathlon on Maury Island

Three Vashon residents competed in the annual XTERRA Vashon Island Off-Road Triathlon, which took place on Sunday, July 10. 

Nearly 100 athletes participated in the high-intensity race, which included a half-mile swim in Quartermaster Harbor, a 14-mile mountain bike ride and a 3.5-mile trail run on Maury Island.  

Islander Tommy Brauer, 23, placed 16th, completing the race in 2:06. The winner, Eric Atwood, completed the triathlon 1:49. 

Islanders Madalyn Marlatt and Michelle Krell also completed the race, finishing in 3:05 and 3:07, respectively.

A portion of the proceeds from the event, put on by BuDu Racing, goes to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
