Winebledon draws Vashon’s tennis lovers

On Saturday, July 9, the Vashon Tennis Club hosted the Sixth Annual Winebledon tennis tournament, under the direction of Bart Queary and Janelle Davis.

This year only five doubles teams competed after meeting the previous Wednesday at Vashon Winery for a potluck dinner and drawing of partners.

The same format was used as last year. A round-robin tournament pitted each team against the other in a four-game set. Wins were tallied to determine seeding for the bracketed portion of the tournament.

The winners were Mike Douvier and Ron Irvine, who defeated Frank Davis and Steve Salonen: 2-6, 6-2, 6-2.

Vashon Tennis Club has about 36 members who regularly play doubles tennis at the Vashon High School tennis courts. New players are welcome to join. Play starts at 7 a.m., Monday through Saturday and 8 a.m. on Sunday.
