Vashon’s final football game was an exhilarating, back-and-forth contest that wasn’t decided until the last play, when Vashon lost 40-38 to Friday Harbor.

Friday Harbor scored on their first play. Garrett Starr then ran Friday Harbor’s kickoff back for a touchdown, and the Pirates were up 8-6.

Friday Harbor was able to score again, going ahead 14-8.

The Pirates got the ball and executed a touchdown drive with strong runs from Nick Betz and passes to Ezra Lacina and Starr, tying the score at 14-14.

Evan Anderson recovered a Friday Harbor fumble that ended with a touchdown drive.

The second half started with three unanswered touchdowns by Friday Harbor, which went ahead 34-20.

The Pirates came back and scored with a 50-yard pass play to Starr.

Again Friday Harbor answered with a touchdown to lead 40-26.

Refusing to give up, the Pirates scored early in the fourth quarter bringing  the score to 40-32.

The Pirates attempted an onside kick, which was successfully recovered by Owen Brenno, leading to a Pirate touchdown and the final 40-38 score.

The close game marked the end of the season and the final game for seniors Elliott Ellingsen, Jacob Ludberg and Kevin Thomas.
