Athletes run and ring for a cause
December 20, 2011 · Updated 11:01 AM
More than 65 runners and walkers of all ages met on the trails of Island Center Forest on Saturday for the 5k Jingle-Jangle Jingle Bell Fun Run/Walk.
The fun run was the second group run organized by the Vashon Running Club. Entry was free, but runners were asked to bring a gift to donate to the Kiwanis’ Toy Drive. The group hopes to promote physical activity, provide a way for Islanders to enjoy Vashon trails and foster community.
Jingle bells for runners’ shoes were provided by the Vashon Pharmacy, and the forest was filled with ringing during the event. Refreshments for after the race were donated by Thriftway, with additional post-run refreshments shared by participants potluck style.
The next Vashon Running Club group run is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 21. Check out the Vashon Running Club Facebook page for more details.
