Sailing program renamed after beloved Island instructor

Registration is open for the 13th season of Vashon’s youth sailing program, and those familiar with the program will notice some changes this year.

The popular program for ages 8 to 18 is now named the Bruce Haulman Junior Sailing Program, paying tribute to the longtime Islander who founded it.

Also new this year, beginning and experienced young sailors will learn on a brand new fleet of Byte sailboats.

Teen and young-adult instructors also help with the program, which consists of six different four-day classes at the Quartermaster Yacht Club beginning July 9. Adult sailing lessons are also available.
