Jane Oswald, a Vashon middle schooler, recently traveled to Phoenix to compete in the US Youth Soccer Far West Regional Tournament.
Oswald plays with Washington Premier FC, a Puyallup soccer team that won the state championships in May and then went on to face other state champions in Phoenix.
The team represented Washington well by trouncing Northern California, 4-0, matching New Mexico 0-0 and beating Utah, 3-2. In the quarterfinals, they beat Arizona, 2-0.
Ultimately, the girls finally lost to West Coast FC from Southern California in the semi-final game. West Coast FC went on to win Region IV the next day.
“It was lots of fun, but very hot,” Oswald said after the tournament. The girls were playing in temperatures over 100 degrees.
Jane’s team will meet up with West Coast FC again in August when the girls travel to San Diego to compete in the Surf Cup.
