Vashon-Maury Sports Briefs — Vashon Aquatic Club opens swim registration

Registration for the summer swim session of Vashon Aquatic Club began Monday. Register between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. at Ober Park for the session, which runs June 9 to Aug. 8 at Vashon’s public pool.

Baseball players honored

Pirate baseball players were recognized for their dedication, many of them earning top league honors this month.

Senior Thomas Schumaker was named Nisqually All-League 1A baseball first team catcher. Senior Justin Calhoun was named the team’s second baseman, and senior Chris Allman made outfield.

Senior Micah Deibell and junior Chris Pieterick were named pitchers for the league’s second team.

Senior Nathan Ott received an honorable mention.

Vashon earned the sportsmanship team award.

Baseball awards banquet tonight

The Vashon Pirates baseball team will hold an awards banquet from 6 to 8:30 p.m., tonight, June 4, at the Camp Burton Lodge.

League soccer teams named

Four Pirates made the Nisqually All-League 1A boys soccer first team: senior Matt Carlander, senior Jason Corrales-Diaz, senior Jamie O’Neill and senior Byron Starkey. Second team players are sophomore Michael Butz, senior Derek Reinalt and junior Thomas Timm-Skove.

Senior Chris Cacciapaglia was named Nisqually League’s co-MVP, along with Russell Wyatt of Charles Wright Academy.

Paul Beytebiere was named Co-Coach of Year, along with Charles Wright’s Jim Dempsey.
