July 23, 2008 · Updated 10:31 AM
The Vashon Wrestlers went 10-1 at the Oregon State Team Wrestling Camp July 7 to 10, placing fifth out of 36 teams from Washington, Oregon and California.
Rogen Lopez and Geran Webb were both undefeated (11-0) and Timmy Jovanovich went 10-1. Lopez also won the Takedown Tournament, which took place between dual meets.
The Vashon team’s only loss, 45-33, was to Hermiston, the back-to-back 5A State Champs from Oregon. Big wins were notched over Graham Kapowsin (second in 4A Washington state last year), Bellevue, Clackamas, Ore., and Clark (a tough team from Nevada).
After going 9-1 on their side of the bracket, Vashon wrestlers crossed over for a match for fifth place, beating rival Orting 37-30.
All wrestlers trained hard and gained valuable technique and experience to make a formidable team next winter, said coach Anders Blomgren. The team’s season runs November through February 2009.
