Rock Riders shine at King County Fair
t Three qualified to compete in state fair in September.
Several members of the Vashon Rock Riders 4-H Club recently competed successfully at the King County Fair in Enumclaw.
Dressage and “over fences” riders Max Johnson, Taylor Shride and Anna Wilson entered first.
Johnson was grand champion in equitation over low fences.
In two-foot fences, Wilson was reserve champion, and Shride placed third.
The state-qualifying jumping round left Wilson with an additional reserve champion placing, with Shride finishing ninth.
The training level test-of-choice dressage competition showcased Shride’s abilities, as she earned the intermediate grand champion ribbon.
Johnson placed fourth among intermediates, and Wilson earned third among senior riders.
In the state qualifying test, Wilson placed fourth, Shride fifth, and Johnson seventh.
Junior riders Stori Johnson and Stephanie Provost enjoyed their first King County Fair experience. Johnson placed third in huntseat, fourth in trail, eighth in stockseat, and seventh in bareback.
Provost earned sixth in trail and tenth in stockseat. In non-mounted events, Provost also won the trophy buckle for her public presentation on manure management, titled “The Poop-Scoopin’ Boogie.”
Speedster Addie Davis continued her winning tradition during the western games section, earning third in showmanship and barrel racing, and taking the grand champion title in pole bending and two-barrel flags.
Last, but definitely not least, Margaret Heagerty competed in intermediate performance, where she tied for third in trail, was reserve champion in advanced riding, and earned the grand champion ribbon and trophy in huntseat.
Davis, Heagerty and Shride will represent King County in their respective divisions at the Washington State Fair in Puyallup in September.
In addition, senior Rock Rider member Lizzy Corliss will also be there as a member of the King County equine judging team.
