Vashon Pirate Youth Football is in full swing this fall, with practice 6 to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday at Vashon High School. Above, six youth Pirates show off their new jerseys. In the back row, left to right, are Palmer Burk, Logan Hawkins and Alex Symbol-Godfrey. In the front row are Josh Tillman, Harper Whitney and Franklin Easton. This year, there are two teams, lightweights (Bud’s Bombers in honor of Bud Snaza) and heavyweights. The new members of the Pirate coaching staff this fall are Clay Leonard, Manu Spagnoli and Sean Donnelly, all graduates of Vashon High School and former Pirate football players. Matt Amundsen is head coach, and assistants are Kevin Wickman, Chet Tillman and Jason Alberthal. The season starts with a jamboree Aug. 23 at Clover Park’s Harry Lang Stadium in Lakewood.The program is still seeking financial sponsors. Contact Paul Wallrof at 567-4073 or Jill Yates at 567-4347.
