Kids take on HOTS triathlon, too
August 26, 2008 · Updated 2:41 PM
On Sunday, Aug. 24, the eighth annual Heart of the Sound (HOTS) Triathlon took place at the Burton Peninsula. Men, women, relay teams of three and kids competed in the race, under skies that weren’t always hospitable.
“The kids had to deal with a rain storm that broke during the bike leg,” said Bruce Cyra, HOTS organizer.
The kids’ triathlon costs only $10, he said, which does not cover the organizers’ costs. Fees were reduced two years ago “in an effort to promote healthy activity in area youth and to introduce kids to multisport endurance events,” he added.
Many youth who competed in the kids’ triathlon in past years have moved on to compete in the adult version, he said, the youngest of whom was Chris Wilkerson, 14, of Bainbridge Island.
The results of the kids’ triathlon are below.
