Nineteen high school wrestling teams sloshed and floated their way to the Everett High School gymnasium on Saturday, Jan. 10, where they slipped out of their survival suits to don their singlets and participate in the Everett Classic Wrestling Tournament, held for varsity and junior varsity teams.

When the waters had receded enough to count the survivors,

here’s how they finished: Sam Chapman, first place; Geran Webb, second place; Eddie Protzeller, Rogen Lopez and Timmy Jovanovichelli (alias Jovanovich), third place.

Madeleine Wolczko and Graeme Britz won matches but fell one short of plac-

ing.

Three JV wrestlers won their first high school matches: Vince Jovanovich, Deven Forest and Sjors Steneker.

Wrestlers who also participated and won matches include Keegan Shrum, Sylvie Shiosaki, Iris Spring, Maximo Mandl, Kevin Thomas, Jordan Lopez, Elliot Ellingsen, Max Croonquist and Jake Ludberg.

Vashon placed fourth out of the 19 teams at the tournament.

The Pirates’ next home match will be tomorrow, Thursday, Jan. 15, against Washington High School. See ya’ there!
