On Thursday, Sept. 10, the Pirates hosted the first cross-country meet of the season — the inaugural race on a new course around the high school campus.

Both the boys and girls teams came away with victory over the Orting Cardinals and the Steilacoom Sentinals. The girls beat Steilacoom 19-36 with Orting scoring an incomplete. The boys won with 32 points to Orting’s 42 and Steilacoom’s 48.

Sophomore Tylor Heit finished second, completing the 3.1-mile loop in 18 minutes, 41 seconds. Not far behind were Colin Andrus, Aidan Cyra, Cole Grabow and Ramsey Walker, finishing sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth overall.

Savannah Krug and Leigh Sheridan came in a close second and third place in the girls’ race, helping the team of five returning runners win the first meet.

The Pirates hit the road on Thursday at Fort Steilacoom with a meet against the host Charles Wright and Cascade Christian, Seattle Christian and Fife.
