U12 Soccer: Vashon Raptors head to post-season
December 15, 2009 · Updated 3:27 PM
Vashon’s Raptors U12 boys soccer team clinched the number-one spot in the Gold Division on Saturday by beating the second-place team 1-0. The opposing team, the Gig Harbor Whitecaps, had beaten the Raptors with a fluke goal at the beginning of the season, said coach Mark Scheer.
“We waited all season for the rematch,” he said. “And what a rematch it was. ... We had just an amazing goal in the 57th minute to ice the game. ... It was spectacular.”
The team now heads to the post-season tournament this weekend, seeded number one. The top two teams in the Gold Division will play the top two teams in the Silver and Bronze divisions; the winners will face off on Sunday for a trophy.
“Talk about exciting — it’s been a wonderful season,” Scheer said.
