Vashon Island Junior Rowing Club has a day full of strong finishes

On Sunday, March 14, the Vashon Island Junior Rowing Club — composed of rowers in eighth- through 12th-grades — competed against Bainbridge Island Rowing Club and Orcas Island Rowing Club on Bainbridge Island, winning several races and putting in a strong all-around showing.

There was no rain, and water conditions were fine as rowers took to the water. The day’s results are as follows:

• First place: men’s varsity four — Thane Gill, Will Kicinski, Steve DeWalt, Tim Hansen and coxswain Sarah Warner.

• First place: second men’s varsity four — Thane Gill, Steve DeWalt, Wade Hankin, Tim Hansen and coxswain Olivia Sayvetz.

• First place: men’s novice four — Ryan Bingham, Gus Magnuson, Tate Gill, Raphael Torres and coxswain Mari Hamper.

• First place: women’s four — Avalon Koenig, Meaghan Connors, Alaina Williams, Marja Haflinger and coxswain Mari Hamper.

• First place: women’s varsity quad — Avalon Koenig, Meaghan Connors, Alaina Williams, Marja Haflinger and coxswain Olivia Sayvetz.

• First place: women’s novice four

— Mia Croonquist, Emmie Kehoe, Katleyn Carter, TeraJane Ripley and coxswain Hannah Scheer.

• Second place: men’s varsity eight — Thane Gill, Steve DeWalt, Will Kicinski, Tim Hansen, Wade Hankin, Ky Burton, Sam Magnuson, Isaiah Mosser-Rohe and coxswain Olivia Sayvetz.

• Second place: women’s varsity eight — Avalon Koenig, Meaghan Connors, Alaina Williams, Marja Haflinger, Mia Croonquist, Emmie Kehoe, Katelyn Carter, TeraJane Ripley and coxswain Sage Doble.

• Second place: women’s novice eight — Mia Croonquist, Emmie Kehoe, Katelyn Carter, TeraJane Ripley, Hannah Scheer, Charlotte Kehoe, Marcella McConnell and coxswain Sarah Warner.

• Third place: men’s varsity double — Yusuf Griffin and Alec Spencer.

• Third place: men’s novice eight — Ryan Bingham, Gus Magnuson, Tate Gill, Raphael Torres, Jose D’Avila, Ian Peterson, Marcella McConnell, Alex Soriano and coxswain Sage Doble.
