Golf team comes out on top after latest match

The season for the Vashon High School Golf Team began on Feb. 26 under second-year coach Christian Hassan and assistant coaches Ron Krieger, Neil Jungemann and Cliff Eckman. Leading the team this season are seniors captain Sam Knight and co-captain Luke Larson. In his first season last year, Knight did well and was and an alternate for the state tournament. Larson was injured part of last year and has returned to be one of the team’s top players.

The first match at the Vashon Golf Club was with Seattle Christian, and the team lost by three strokes. The second match at the Vashon Golf Club was a five-team competition, where Vashon placed fourth and missed third by one stroke. The third match was away with Bellevue Christian and again a close match that Vashon lost by two strokes. The latest match at home was on March 29 with Cascade Christian, and the team finally came out on top by four strokes.

The top scorers for Vashon High School have been seniors Knight and Larson and freshman Koen Shaw. Other starters have been Jahmiah Hodgen, Colin Shore, Jackson Higuera and Italian exchange student, Amedeo Gallina. Playing junior varsity are 10th graders Jack Zimmerman, Jake Harrah and Matthew Jones. There is one more home match at the Vashon Golf Club with Charles Wright and two away matches, one with Charles Wright and Seattle Christian.
