Vashon wrestlers do well at weekend tournament

Two Vashon wrestlers competed in the freestyle state tournament last weekend in Centralia. Freshman Ryan Nelson, left, competed with his typical vim and vigor, according to coach Per Lars Blomgren, winning two matches and placing in the top eight in his age and weight group. Ryan is a fearless competitor, he said, and will undoubtedly be a force to be reckoned with in the upcoming years.

Sixth-grader Colin McIntyre, right, won all of his matches, in turn winning the state championship. Colin was his typical aggressive and technical self in winning his title. He not only won, but he won easily, outscoring all of his opponents by 10 points. Colin will represent the state in the National Dual Meet tournament next month.
