Vashon’s Adrian St. Germain two-time state wrestling champion

For the second time in as many years as he has been a high school wrestler, Vashon High School’s Adrian St. Germain captured a state championship title in his weight class at the Tacoma Dome over the weekend.

His accolades were joined by those of fellow Pirate wrestler Luke Larson, a junior who has travelled to state three times and finished sixth in his weight class at this year’s tournament. Vashon finished 15th of 47 schools throughout the state.

Vashon sent a total of six wrestlers to state this year. The other four — Julian Fifield, Moses Kilpatrick, Nico Nuxoll and Hunter Burger all lost in the state quarterfinals Friday.

The contest concludes the season for the young team that will see two seniors graduate in June: Cori Williams and Luke Wentzel.

“This was one of, if not the, youngest teams we’ve coached in the last 15 years,” head wrestling coach Anders Blomgren said. “We took some lumps along the way, but we also made some strides — finishing second in districts, qualifying six for state and placing 15th at state — and hope to continue that momentum in this off-season and into next year.”

He continued to say both Larson and St. Germain had historically great seasons.

“In Adrian’s case, it was culminated with perhaps the fastest pin in finals history. And Larson defeating the returning state champ, 6-0 in the quarterfinals,” Blomgren said.
