VHS golf team drops game to Charles Wright, but takes second in tournament

Last Thursday, the Vashon High School Golf Team traveled to Chambers Bay Golf Course in Tacoma to play Charles Wright. They were unsuccessful in the nine-hole Nisqually League match and lost to Charles Wright, the top team in the league.

On Friday, the team again traveled to Chambers Bay to participate in the 18-hole Charles Wright Invitational Tournament. The experience of playing the day before on the tough Chambers Bay golf course proved helpful as the team came in second to Charles Wright in the four-team tournament. The top four scores out of the five players determine the standings, and Vashon was led by Luke Larson, 85; Koen Shaw, 90; Sam Knight, 98; and Colin Shore, 105. The fifth player Amedeo Gallina, an Italian exchange student, shot a 110. Amedeo had never played golf until this year, when he came out for the Vashon team.

The team has three more league matches remaining before the Nisqually League Tournament at Gold Mountain Olympic Golf Course in Bremerton in two weeks.
