Readers weigh in on ferry crash, abortion funding

FERRY CRASH

What’s in a name?

Nicknames often arise after sudden events. For me, the Washington State Ferries’ Cathlamet’s sudden arrival at the Fauntleroy dock on the morning of July 28 will be the ‘CRASHlamet’.

ABORTION

County funding objectionable

What the heck are Dow Constantine and our King County Council representative Joe McDermott thinking? They just approved giving a non-profit organization $500,000 of our county tax dollars to support abortion services for women throughout the Northwest. This would include paying abortion providers for the procedure and transportation costs and lodging for women coming to our state for an abortion from throughout the Northwest. I don’t care if women want to come from out of state to have an abortion, but the hell if I think our local tax dollars need to pay for it and their transportation and lodging.

Dow is already asking us to raise our property taxes so he can buy more private property and, take it off the tax rolls and leave it as open space. Enough people are already being taxed out of their houses and rents are going through the roof partially because property taxes have gone up so much, yet Dow and Joe think giving away $500,000 of our tax dollars this way is a good use of our tax dollars. What is next? Maybe we taxpayers can send them on all out on a sightseeing adventure on Argosy Cruises to top off their trip to our state.

Please take the time to call Dow at 206-263-9600 and Joe at 206-477-1008 and tell them to knock this type of nonsense off. There are so many better uses of our tax dollars. Remember these acts of stupidity when it is election time. Just because a candidate has a D next to their name doesn’t mean we have to keep them around.
