YOUTH SPORTS

Thank you to lacrosse community

The high school boys lacrosse team, the Vultures, will battle for the state championship next weekend, at 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 13, at the Vashon High School stadium.

The club will soon bid a fond farewell to a few graduating athletes who are leaving the club, eliciting mixed feelings of excitement and sadness. The departing seniors include Ninabelle Millins from the Valkyries and Maalik Miller, Ben Larsen, Ryan Noonan, and Aiden Green from the Vultures.

While many youth teams play their final games and wrap up their seasons, Vashon Lacrosse Club offers drop-in sessions for those wishing to stay active in the offseason. These sessions are a fun opportunity to get familiar with the game or improve for next season. Equipment is available for those in need. Sticks Up Lacrosse Drop-Ins take place from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays at the high school, sponsored by Vashon Park District.

This season presented valuable growth opportunities, particularly in the programs for girls. The club appreciates the support and equipment donations for these teams. The girls’ programs are flourishing and hold promising prospects for the future.

The club would like to recognize everyone who helped make the season a success. Seniors who mentored younger players, guiding their growth and development, should be recognized as well.

Special thanks go to Lila Cohen and Lily Wolny for their coaching contributions to the Vashon Parks District’s youth girls’ lacrosse drop-in program. Both juniors on the high school Valkyries team, Lila and Lily have been part of the Vashon Lacrosse Club since sixth grade. Their expertise and enthusiasm for the game help nurture the next generation of girls to play lacrosse on Vashon.

Fundraising plays a crucial role in supporting the organization’s safety, scholarship, and coaching funds. The club’s upcoming Mother’s Day bake sale and raffle, at Vashon Thriftway, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, May 14, offers the opportunity to win one of 12 gift baskets, filled with local goods and treats, and support lacrosse in a sweet way.
