This weekend boasts a wealth of options for Island music lovers, including concerts by up-and-coming Seattle songwriters, favorite Island players and the return of Trolls Cottage, a band that began on Vashon and now tours widely.

Friday, Jan. 23

Red Bicycle Bistro & Sushi will present a free concert by Sideways Reign at 9:30 p.m. Singer/songwriter Jesse Noll will open for the band.

Concert promoter Pete Welch said that Sideways Reign plays poetic, emotional songs that “quickly turn a room of indifferent listeners into captivated fans.” The show is for ages 21 and older only.

Café Luna will host rhythm and blues singer Lisa Marshall for a CD release party of her first solo album, “Simple,” at 7:30 p.m., Jan. 23. There is no cover charge.

Marshall is a Seattle singer who has been compared to powerhouse divas including Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight, Mavis Staples and Janis Joplin.

Saturday, Jan. 24

The Hardware Store Restaurant will host Island singer, songwriter and guitar wizard Daryl Redeker at 7 p.m. There is no cover charge.

Café Luna will be the scene of a free show by Mack & Rachel, a duo that plays folk, country and bluegrass music, at 7:30 p.m.

Mack Bailey and Rachel Levy have won a number of songwriting awards.

Red Bicycle Bistro & Sushi will present Trolls Cottage and Tiny Vipers at 9:30 p.m. The show, for ages 21 and older, has a cover charge of $8.

Trolls Cottage has released four CDs. The band has toured extensively on the West Coast, and shared the stage with Luke Dube, Gregory Isaacs, John Brown’s Body, Culture, Eek A Mouse and Clinton Fearon.

Tiny Vipers, a solo act by Seattle’s Jesy Fortino, will open for Trolls Cottage.
