Folk and blues come to Luna

Café Luna will be the scene of a rousing folk and blues music performance by Anna Laube and Tom Rill at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, July 5. There is no cover charge.

Anna Laube’s pan-genre (folk/country/blues/Americana) pop crossover is, in the words of, “acoustic, atmospheric, wide open, and western…dirt-covered highways and the setting sun.” The music is simple and relaxed, derived as much from the American folk-troubadour tradition as it is from newcomers like Ani Difranco and Cat Power.

Town Rill is the musical alias of songwriter Birger Olsen. Birger has been writing and performing his singular brand of blues for many years, melding upbeat finger-style guitar grooves with a rough baritone voice, lending a timelessness to even the most contemporary of his songs.

Slammin’ poetry

Check out the in-your-face, competitive and fun experience of Vashon Poetry Slam, scheduled for 8 p.m., Thursday, July 3, at Café Luna.

New to Vashon Island, this poetry slam will feature formidable performances and electric audience participation. For more information, visit
