A high-octane Halloween weekend at Red Bicycle Bistro & Sushi will kick off at 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, with a night of do-it-yourself karaoke fun.

The evening will be hosted by Tim and Mary Hoffman of Hoffman Karaoke, who will be bringing their karaoke setup to the Bike for the first time.

The evening is for all ages until 11 p.m., when the venue switches to a 21 and older only policy.

It’s all a warm-up to what will happen the next night at the Bike.

In what is becoming a Halloween tradition, legendary Island band Subconscious Population will be on hand for a masked ball starting at 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31.

The band, well known to longtime Islanders for its funky and hypnotic grooves, is led by Ron Hook.

Another well-known band that got its start on Vashon, Trolls Cottage, will also play that night.

Pete Welch, the Island music impressario who books music at the Bike, predicted that it would be a night to remember.

“If this show is anything like last year’s event, this is going to be the party to go to on Vashon Island on Halloween night,” Welch said.

Attendees are encouraged to come in costume, and prizes will be awarded to the outfits deemed best by audience vote.

“Save your strength for Halloween night — you’re gonna need it,” Welch advised. “It’s going to be a crazy night.”

Welch said he expected a sell-out crowd for the event, and he encouraged Islanders to buy tickets in advance.

The Red Bike’s Subconscious Population Masked Halloween Ball starts at 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, and is an event for ages 21 and older only, with identification required at the door.
